Tales from Vault 99

Vault 99 was a control vault located in Brooklyn, New York and was set to open on the 5th of October 2277, the Vault was equipped with a Garden of Eden Creation Kit (G.E.C.K) to be used on reclamation day. The Vault was funded by the Winchester company in order to gain the CEO of the companies family a spot in the The Vault as a result Vault security where equipped with Winchester Plasma Weapons as well as a huge stockade of Plasma Cartridges to power them. Upon reclamation day however the vault took a vote, the Overseer gave them 2 options:

The dwellers ultimately are split between what to do, come voting day the vote was split 49% in favor of opening the Vault and using the G.E.C.K and 51% Keeping the vault shut. While the overseer didn't share this publicly it actually came down to a single vote.

This began to cause a rift among the vault population so the Overseer decided to come to a compromise for everyone. In January 2278 he announced his plans that the vault would remain shut unless necessary and they would remain in the vault but he would put together a scout team to go and do recon in the wasteland, they would also open the vault up to select traders vetted by the scouts.

The scout team was given spare plasma weapons from the security and told to map out the whole of the New York down town and Long Island area. It was comprised of roughly 100 dwellers from the pool that voted to open the vaults on a voluntary basis from the vault they where split into squadrons of 10 with one dweller in each squadron being a squad leader.
